Te Hapua Excellence. # 3

This week everyone class in the year 7/8 hub moved to a new group for either Te Hapua,Buddy program or garden to table.I was In term 1 Buddy program and have now moved to Te Hapua;in Te Hapua we learn about robotics and coding. We get divided in to two groups and for four weeks each we stars by either going to coding or robotics and then switch around. My first four weeks is going to be in coding. At first I thought that coding was going to be very boring and hard to do.But as I learnt more and more,I found it quite interesting for the first week we had to make a small digital presentation were we had to make it so it told people about us and our hobbies. The website we used to make this is a coding website called Scratch.I really enjoyed it although I did fid it a little bit difficult as I am not very good with computer related stuff.

The care value I showed was Respect as I  respected our teacher who was Helen who is going to be teaching us for the remaining three weeks

Peer mediation #3

This week for peer mediation Milan,Andrei and I had our duty on the second half of Wednesday lunch. We had to change our days as My class (room 27 ) had Te Hapua every Friday which was my original day I was normally on.This week only Milan and I did it because Andrei did not show up; we got our vest and lanyards from the previous group and started to walk around. We mostly try walk near the junior area because, it is a area where we mostly get our problem and we barely get any around the kauri area.We got pretty much no problems to deal with but just got the odd couple of kids asking us to solve a problem like someone saying that this person is behind the classrooms and it was easy as saying just not to go there.

This week I showed TRUSTWORTHY because I showed up on time for my duty and did it,this shows trustworthiness as the teachers trust us to do our duty.

Evaluate statistical investigations or probability activities

In Maths we have been learning to:

  • Evaluate statistical investigations or probability activities undertaken by others including data collection methods, choice of methods and validity of findings.

Here is a link to our online modelling book that supports this learning.

Here is some evidence of my learning.

A part of this learning that I found challenging was The extend Abstract task as It took me a while to understand some of the questions. But overall I find it was not to difficult,The only thing I did not understand was firstly explaining the how the statistics quoted against the raw data. But overall I think the IXL activities were really helpful.

My next step is to continue to apply this knowledge of statistics and probability in a variety of real world situations and contexts.

Current events term 1

Current Events Term 1

In Current Events I covered these topics:
  • The design of the Halswell Skate Park and I made a submission to the council.
  • Donald Trump’s Refugee Plan
  • Christchurch Earth Memorial
  • The new Ngā Puna Wai Sports Facility
  • The Red Zone and Avon River Regeneration Plan with a submission to the council.

My favourite topic was The Red Zone and Avon River Regeneration Plan.because we could think creatively put our ideas forward and think about something were we don't have any restrictions e.g design a mall.So that is why this was my favourite.

Here is the Link the Red Zone and Avon River Regeneration Plan.

The Reading National Standards I have achieved are

  • Year 9/10
    • As I read I can make decisions about the usefulness of the text for the purpose - Eg: by using a variety of criteria to evaluate

Visual language.

Term 1 novel study.

Term 1 Novel Study

This term I have been reading and studying the novel Dragon keeper by Carol Wilkinson.

I found that this novel was really gripping as it had quite a lot of cliff hangers and it was a book that you at a time just don't want to finish as it is really good and has a lot of proverbs like all answers all answers lie beyond the gate of experience.

During the novel I had to complete two major assessment tasks. The first is an Explain Map which shows the consequences of a major event in the book. The second was a Describe++ Map (Inference map) which shows I how I have connected prior knowledge and other experiences to what I have been reading to make an inference.

National Standard this covers
  • Year 9/10 Standard
    • I can monitor my understanding as it develops during my reading, and adjust my strategies to address any comprehension problems Eg: If I don’t understand a passage I have read I can re-read it, read-on, use pictures or diagrams, or explore the meaning of some of the vocabulary.
    • I can use strategies to analyse ideas and information and to reflect critically on the meaning I am gaining from my reading. (Eg: I can think about the meaning of the information and ideas and how this fits with what I think)

Excellence 2 Leadership

This week we had tech like every week we always have it on a Thursday.I am now in the science group wich is our second group for the year our teacher is Mr Ruseon.I am really looking forward to this pentad as I really like science and overall learning about how science works.Unfortunately It had been raining the whole week and it ws also today.his made morning tea at tech really hard as we only got to go just outside our classroom and only got some fresh air but it was better than nothing.I think this made it hard as people were full of energy but were not able to let there energy out wich made them a little energetic for class but other wise was pretty fun.We just chose the element of the day rb wich is the sybol for rubidium.Rubidium is a really powerfull solid.

Overall I think I showed respect as I was really resoectfull to the teacher.

Excellence home learning #2

For this home learning challeng I chose C3 and I taught my sister Hiba how to use Canva we made a Birthday cards my sister, the  name Bob I  made up but the age was refering to my brother as he will be 3 soon. Here is a snapshot of the card we made.

leadership excellence #1.

This thursday as per usual I had Technology except this week there were no Year 7s exept the people who did not go. Wich means while going there the bus was  not only more emptier but alot quiter.
Whiles going there we Mrs Stinston but on the way back she was not on our bus but on bus 2 as I am on bus 1.while going there it was alright but when coming back as Mrs stinson was not on our bus was a little bit noisy but not to noisy because the bus driver did not have to stop or remind us about our noise level.Overall at technoly it was also really fun I am In the  design and texttiles group I made a Apron which had a base whith colorfull sheep and my name printed on it as well which in my opinion made it look more profesional and better. This was our last week in each of our pentades.
I am really looking forward to our next session  tech as it is the higlight of my week.

The care value I showed was Active thinkig because I came up with the design by myself abou the apron and adding my name to my apron.

Excellence Peer mediation #1.

Today as per usual on a Friday I had Peer mediation. But as the year 7s were away, since Wendesday for the peer mediation to still run I decided to put the year 8s that were here in groups whith other year 8s.Unfortunately there was only one half of lunch for each day,as it is normally on the whole lunch. But to make the groups all i did is who ever was on the day e.g thursday all the year 8s on that day would go together.Personally I thought that people were not taking there job seriously as bearley no was doing there duty.I did discuss this with Mrs Stinston so she was aware. As for my duty I went Whith Hailey who was on the first half unlike me as I am on the second half.we started by goig around the junior where everything seemed fine so we went to the field we only came across one problem wich was as easy as saying "how would you feel as if it was you."In my opinion using this sentence really helps solving whith kids who will not let other kids play.We then just had a quick walk around room 10 and 11 and headed back to the junior area and ended there and came back.It was a really quite lunch.i ended off by playing a game of basketball.

I think I showed Excellence by just doing the right thing and to my best.

Peer mediation merit 5

Today as per usual on a Friday second half of lunch I had peer mediation.Maxim,Shivanah and I started off by going to the junior area as we get most of our problems from there. So when we got there we did not get any problems for a while so we  went to the field were we only got two pproblems wcich involved a disagreement unfortunately, we recieved the problem when the  lunch bell  was just about to go so we tryed to solve it but as we got to no more about the problem we realised it involved violince so we told them we were not alowed to solve it and that they should tell there teacher as peer mediators are not allowed to deal whith problems that involve vioince as we waked back the two kids that had the confict seemed fine whiles walking back so we did not really think we had to keep trying to solve the prolem.

Something I found slightly hard was tryng keep other kids away from us trying to hear the stry or we keep having other kids just coming in to ask us what hapeened and It gets really fustrating because we have to spend more time telling people to go away than solving the proble so I think I showed the respect care value by being respectfull when telling the kids to go away.

Games with minimal or no equipment.

In PE we have been participating in a variety of games that require little or no equipment.
Below is the Matrix which shows our progression in this unit of learning.

Screen Shot 2017-03-12 at 12.32.06 PM.png

The table below shows my understanding of games with minimal or no equipment.
(Fill this table in, in as much detail as possible. )

Examples of Games that need minimal or no equipment.
What equipment would we usually need to play these games.
Why do we play games with minimal or no equipment?
Tag games e.g Indian tag, octopus and invisible tag.And some games that involve large groups like catch the dragons tail.mostly cones and balls.
and things similar to cones e.g flags.
so if in case we don't have any equipment you still have lots of games to play so your always involved.

My Strengths.
Some things that I have done well during this unit of learning are like P.E overall and I listened to the rules.because………..I just like P.E and listening to the rules helps you play fairly.

My Next Steps.
Some things I could improve on when playing games with minimal or no equipment are…….  Because…………… is trying to think of other;different ways to play a game.

Leadership article

In writing I have been learning to use a wide range of punctuation appropriately and with increasing accuracy like . , ! ? “”
- colon :
- semi-colon ;
- hyphen -
- parentheses ( )
- brackets [ ]
- ellipses ...

I have been especially focusing on using parentheses and semi-colon. I have highlighted these in green where I have used them as well as other punctuation that I changed because it was used incorrectly. Here is a piece of my writing that shows this.

I will show theese Leadership by firstly, showing up to my duty on time to demonstrate trustworthiness and show resilience by not giving up and last but not least!;to show active thinking by using multiple strategies.

Showing active thinking is very Important.Bill Gates really showed active thinking by.When something would go wrong [not according to plan] he would think to make it better and overall he came up with the idea of Microsoft.

Leadership 5 Buddy program.

Today Brook and I had buddy program along with the other half of our class. We first started by being put in to group whit about six or seven year ones.In our first, group we had all boys which personally I think is the group that overall listened the best. After, introducing ourselves and asked them to introduce themselves we started to play color tag once we thought, that it got a little bit boring we played a color and shapes game.Once, time was up we arranged the boys into a line and sent them off. When we got our next group we just explained the rules and played the color and shapes then we played tricky tag because the kids insisted. Finally we got our last group of kids we decided to play catch the dragons tail and cat and mouse after a while, time was up.Overall this was really fun and I also think the kids enjoyed it because we ran games that we assumed they had not played befor or we added a twist.

CARE VALUE I SHOWED WAS:Active thinking because we played a range of games and used out time wisely.

In Maths we have been learning:
  • To convert between fractions, decimals , percentages and vice versa.
Here is a link to our online modelling book.

Here are the IXL screenshots that show evidence of my learning.
(include screenshots of ALL of  the IXL activities that you have completed)

Here are some images to show the book work I have done. ( Use the ipad to take photos of your book work)

My next learning step in Maths is .... to try remember them off by heart and solve more complicated equations with ease.

Peer mediation merit 4h

Today I had peer mediation as I usually have on a Friday,my duty is on the second half along with Maxim and Shivanah.Unfotunately Maxim was in the sick bay and I could not find her even though I reminded her so I just got the gear from the other peer mediators and went down to the junior are were as soon as I went I got a problem about not letting me play with her,we get these problems quite a lot but luckily they came to a agreement very quickly then I just walked around mostly the junior area. After a while I got another problem but as this involved violence I was not allowed to try solve there problem but suggested them to go to a duty teacher. As I went for a quick walk Caitlin asked if she could help so I said yes and went back to th junior are with Caitlin we only got one other problem which was about kids just with random problems which made feeling out the google form a little.the google form is the form we use to record the students and the problem down.

CARE VALUE I SHOWED WAS: excellence by just doing my duty and doing it properly.

Leadership #4

Today was cultral day wich we have every year. This is when we celebrate our culture within our school and also learning about them. This event is run by the cultral ambasadorrs who are Sasha and Hussain. For yoday I wore a fancy, cultral and sparkley dress, this style represented where i'm from which is Pakistan.

We started the day off by practicing our mihi so we can present it to the people coming over. When they came over we went outside on to the courts and sang our school waiata,to welcome them. After, we met whith some of them and said our mihi to the adult students from the international school. The majority of them were from India, philipines and bangladesh.Once we did that we watched some performances like a punjabi dance and phillipino dances. After, morning tea we played some philipino games like limbo and this which was my favaourite which they called guards were it was a really stratigacil and involved  lot a team work it was mostly a tagging game.later on,at th cultral assembaley we at the start had japaneese drums the a chineese instrument wich were really nice then we had a kapa haka performences,mr brown even let some students and teachers try some actions.then we had a chineese fashion runway thing then we had a school one.Every teacer chose 4people to be in the fashion show I was persnolly involved in it.

Overall this was really fun and exciting the care value I showed was respect because I showed respect to the students who came over and also at the assembaley.

Then I made chineese rice which has chiken, egg and vegetables. This was my mums recipies.

And for desert I made a truffle.

Key leadership merit #3 [peer mediation]

This week on Friday I had peer mediation along with Maxim and Shivannah. Our duty is on the second half. We we got the vests and lanyards from the second group, they told us that there was a problem that the could not complete so we tried by first solving that problem. Then we went to the junior area where we found and got lots of problems as soon as we went there the first problem was that some boys had a ball stuck up on a shade which was not really a big problem but they really wanted help once we finally got the ball down we helped some more kids. For a while we did not have that many problems and even when we did they were pretty minor like having accidentally hurt some one those kinds of problems were pretty easy to solve because the problem was normally sorted out y saying a simple sorry so we just walked around.Near the end of lunch we just had a quick check around the junior classes and saw some boys who told us another boy had threw toilet brushes over the fence as the bell just rang we told Mr rush and went back to class.

CARE value i showed was community by being overall nice to the kids and not taking sides.

Leadership merit #3

On Wednesday we had a lady named Tracy come to our school from the peace foundation,to teach us about being a better and more efficient peer mediator.

We went over to the hall at about 9:30 we started off by going over a couple of rules;then,we started of by learning about different thing we do when we are around someone or have a problem with someone else.those feeling and reactions were represented by different animals,e.g a turtle is when you just can't be bothered arguing and walk away. After, learning about the different animals we had to write down when we use those e.g if it is around our friends or around family.Later on,we got into groups of about 5 to 6 and did a range of activities like arranging different feeling and key words with the animals. The people that got less wrong got a peer mediation badge,we got 6 wrong but we did not win. After, morning tea we got into different groups and watched a clip on peer mediation, about how peer mediators are supposed to act then,we write down 5/6 qualities about the mediators.Next,we did watch a couple more videos on peer mediation and do a little bit more discussing about the topic.Soon after,we got into pairs of yr 7/8 and did listening activities. At the end we all got a peer mediation badge an went back to class.

C.A.R.E VALUE I SHOWED WAS: probably respect because I showed respect while Tracy was talking.

  • Simple powers to 10.
  • Square roots of perfect squares.
  • Common factors of numbers to 100, including highest common factor.
  • Least common multiples of numbers to 100.

Here are the IXL screenshots that show evidence of my learning.
(include screenshots of ALL of  the IXL activities that you have completed)

My next learning step in Maths is……. to try learning algebra and if it was for this maths goal learn more of a variety of strategies.

Technology and on the bus leadership 2

This week on Thursday we had technology which was pretty familiar to us as we went last year.Exept last years it was on a Tuesday.we left around eight thirty five and we were split on two different bus's,on the way there I sat with Alex. The bus was a little noisy, but was any way fine when we got there we first sat down and the teachers introduced each other and then told us the classes and what group we are in I'm in group b.We then went to our classes,I was in design and textiles.wich was actually two classes mixed in one it these classes we do sewing and 3D printing and stuff like that I personally like sewing the best as you can make very stuff e.g last year I made pillow case with the word live on it.when it was playtime we played on the playground after that we had mandarin were we learn chineese and in this class we learnt about the Chinese New Year, something I learnt was that the colored is luck for chineese people.Afterthat,we went back to class and just did a little bit of reviewing when it was time to go back we got in to our bus's and went back to school.

Overall I really enjoyed the first day of technology and am really looking forward to going every week.
CARE VALUE I SHOWED WAS: Respect because I respected all the teacher and I also respected the bus driver and the bus.

Peer mediation merit 2

Peer mediation training.
This week for peer mediation training we went over who we with which we all new from last week.We also went over how to compromise with kids and we also got a sheet, which was a job description we were told to see if there was anything we could add or any mistakes.Me and hailed did not find any mistakes but added on rule which was remind your partner and the reason we added that was because we thought if you are doing the job alone it will be harder and so it is fair. Then we did a activety  were we had three people who were the peer mediators and the others had a script on how to solve the problem.I was one of the mediators and mrs stinston was playing two roles and making a problem that we had to solve.I thought this was very hard because on purpose she did not easily come to an agreement so we had to ask further questions when we finally did come out with a solution,I was shocked how hard it was and I had really learnt sometimes with a hard situation you have to ask more question.

I think I showe resilience by trying hard to not just say I don't no and try and try.

Home learning challenge merit 1.

For my home learning challenge I  decided on do E9 which was research on an important person or event in NZ I decided to research about how women got to vote in NZ as not much people now about it.

Here is the link to the doc I put my researching on.
doc with information.

Leadership,four square,merit one

TODAY,Alex,Tracy,Amelia,Jacinta, sadiyah and I played four square we first, went over the rule so everything was clear and we didn't have any arguments. Then we decided positions by doing paper, scissors, rock!I was queen. We then started to play, luckily we did not have any issues because even when we did not no what happen or a miss understanding we would just replay the ball, which we all had agreed on at the start of the game.OVERALL I think This was a really fun yet competitive game and if we could make it better I think we should have a referee because sometimes it was very hard to see wether it was out or not.

I think I showed respect because playing fair and respecting everyone's opinion.

Peer mediation merit 1

Today was our second peer mediation training we got in to groups of four and practiced solving a problem.Whith two people the peer mediators and the other two the were the people with the problem, and we then swapped over.we used the landyards and put the peer mediation vests on.I think this was a little hard because the two people can't always find a solution to agree on so sometime you have to ask further questions.Although It was a little hard the script on the land yard really helped because it shows you the order and the process of solving a problem. We also after went for a walk to see areas that need us most it was mostly around the junior area we also learned always have a smile on your face or kids won't come to you,and also never take sides.

I think I showed excellence by being resilient whiles solving the problem because some  people don't agree on a solution, overall I really enjoyed my training.
