Perimeter, Area and Volume.

In maths we have been learning to:
Deduce and use formulae to find the perimeters and areas of polygons & the volumes of prisms.
Find the Perimeters and areas of circles and composite shapes & the volumes of prisms, and cylinders.

Here is a link to our online Modelling Book.

Here is some evidence of my learning.

Include screen shots for all of the IXL activities that you have done
perimeter
area
volume

You can find evidence of my learning in my Maths book.

My Next Step: Is to apply this knowledge to real life situations involving perimeter, area and volume.

Chalk pastels Term 3

Election writing Term 3

WALT: Write an effective argument for our chosen political party.

Have you voted yet, If not are you planning on, and if you are who?
Well in my opinion I reckon that National is a great and agreeable party and so are there policies, another good reason is that they have been running the government for a while and are doing a fine job. Here are the three policies I am going to vote for these include: Continue to require farmers to exclude livestock from waterways, continue to fund community-based housing initiatives to prevent homeless, and strengthen tax rules affecting multinational companies. The first policy I will be explaining is: Continue to require farmers to exclude livestock from waterways.

Continue to require farmers to exclude livestock from waterways.
This would mean that all farmers with livestock for Instance Dairy farms would have to find another way to give water to their livestock as their wastings are making the water not drinkable and unsafe.More water will be safer and drinkable as there will be no contaminants in the water, and I am sure you would like to be able to drink clean water.Furthermore, this will make the economy higher because NZ will have more clean water to sell and use.Another really important policy on why you should vote National, is Continue to fund community-based housing initiatives to prevent homeless.

Continue to fund community-based housing initiatives to prevent homeless.
This means National will continue to fund charities like Salvation army to help the homeless and stop homelessness.By giving them food, water, shelter and medical advice.Wouldn’t you want to have a home, food and clothes if you were in those circumstances? This is a great policy because it will prevent homeless and stop them getting into trouble these include: crimes, stealing and drugs. They do these bad things because, people get too hungry and greedy so they decide to steal. This will also help the homeless people's well-being and give them a better future. This a awesome policy as this will prevent people from getting sick or cold; this could also save someone's life and future. As well as continuing to fund community-based housing initiatives to prevent homeless, Strengthening  tax rules affecting multinational companies is also a fair and
satisfying policy.

Strengthen tax rules affecting multinational companies.
This means that National will strengthen tax rules for companies that are branched in other countries who are paying the same amount as people who only are in one place. This is a very agreeable policy as companies who only have one store are having to pay the same amount as people with multiple stores around the world. This will help the economy a lot as well as people are paying the same amount for everything and is still fair.In addition to helping the economy, this will will help keep track of companies who are trying to get away with paying tax and are paying lower.Imagine if you were having to pay the same amount as companies with more shops than you I am sure you'd want it to be fair.A policy I highly disagree with is is to set a minimum price for alcohol.

A very unagreeable and bad policy is to set a minimum price for alcohol.
This means that they will set low prices on alcohol for people who consume it. I think this is a very bad policy because this will actually result in, encouraging  people to drink alcohol as it is cheap and people who couldn’t afford now can. This, is also a very bad policy because this may encourage young people to drink and will get them  drunk  which will cause numerous types of crimes. This is a very good reason you should not vote for green, and vote for National, I will now wrap up everything we have gone over.

Now that I have clearly explained a couple of National’s policies, can you see why National is the party to vote for. Furthermore, Nationals policies are strong across the whole board.I have covered three policies of national under economy, housing and incomes. Now do you think your going to vote for anyone but National?

My next steps are: To try new and better ways to link paragraphs and use more powerful words.

Koru Games Reflection

In the Koru Games the sport I competed in was Volleyball

Our team won 6th out out 36 teams

I found the experience to be fun and challenging because we had some challenging teams but overall we had fun.

In terms of working with Individuals and Groups; my solo level is relational because I am able to help myself and others and I stay positive.

For Teamwork; my solo level is relational because I share how we can make our team better in positive ways and think of others.

Individuals and groups
I need help to work in a group (with teachers or other students
I can work in a group with my friends.
I can work in a group with anyone in my  year level or team

I can respond positively to the needs of others
I can reflect on how well I work with the group and seek feedback on how I can improve
Teamwork

I need help to interact with others.

I need help to participate in a team.
I can interact with others one to one.

I can participate in a team.
I can interact with others in a small group.

I can participate and take responsibility in a team.

I can participate and take responsibility in a team and explain my choices in terms of team outcomes.
I can participate in creating healthy teams by taking responsibility and critical action.

Letter Writing

In Writing we have been learning to: Write a formal letter.

We have followed the writing process and have planned and drafted a formal letter.

This shows the process that we have followed.

Here is the letter that I have written.

Here is my reflection on the letter writing that we have done.

One thing that I found challenging about writing formal letters was trying to add formal language.

My next step is: look for more opportunities to put my letter writing knowledge into practice in the future.

Reading - Text Composition

In reading we have been learning to  recognize the way words, sentences and paragraphs are put together (eg sentences that express cause and effect) and use this knowledge to understand complicated texts.

Here is a link to our online modelling book Modelling book

These documents show evidence of my learning during this unit:
(link your own learning for each of these activities. Please make sure your sharing settings are open)

Defining parts of a speech
Types of sentences
Analyzing paragraph construction
Explaining the relationship between components of texts.
Complex text analysis

My Next Step: Is to continue to apply this new knowledge of parts of texts, to help me make sense of increasingly complicated text types.

Operations using fractions, percentages, decimals and integers.

In Maths we have been learning to: Understand operations using fractions, percentages, decimals and integers.

Here is some evidence of my learning.

Include screenshots for all 6 IXL activities that you have completed.

Extended Abstract assessment task - Link your Lazer Blazer task here. Include links to the answer sheet and the activity sheet.
Lazer Blazer activity sheet
Lazer Blade answer sheet.

Something that challenged me during this unit of learning was remembering the formulas for each of the IXL activities because I would always get mixed up in remembering them.

My next step is to continue to apply these strategies to real life/ problem solving situations.

Visual Art # 10 ( excellence )

Today was our first session for Visual art.We started off by talking about the types of art and looking at Claude Monet. After, we started to work on a slide looking at the different conventions of art some of them are: symmetry,Balance, proportion, and surface texture. Then we did some more research on Claude Monet's art work.Once, we were done we were allowed to use chalk pastels. ( which are the thing we will use for our final project and practice with) We watched a video where we had to practice the different techniques my favorite one of them was feathering and blending as I liked how they looked with the different colors. A picture we found of Claude Monet called luncheon on the  grass  we compared to another artist  called Edouard Monet.
Here are the two pictures of each of them:

Current Events Term 2, 2017

WALT: I can successfully research a current event.
Here is a link to our online modelling book for this unit of learning.

The National Standard that I have been aiming for during this unit of learning is:

  • Year 9/10: I can read in different ways to find and/or understand information that that is not immediately easy to access or is not organised in familiar ways.

Each week we have read a short text about a current event/ topic. We then formed questions based on what we had read.  After this we researched the answers to our questions and finally we gave our opinions on what we had found out.

Here is some evidence of my learning.

My Next Step is to continue to  apply the reading and  research skills that I have learned in a variety of other areas.

Excellence #9 basketball.

Today It was the last day of school for this term (Friday). The teachers versed the yr 7/8 basketball. All of us practiced at  morning tea  and then at around 12:00 firstly, the Monday team went on; which I am not in.We had to roll on subs so when ever someone wanted to go on then they would go on or if someone got tired then they would come off and someone would go on for them. After a while, at around 12:15 the Friday team went on (which was me) But I was not on for the fist part but I did get to go on after, a bit.The teachers were winning by a quite a bit Mr Si got most of the shots in and he got quite a few half courts.Along with Mr Si, Mr Hillary, Mr Brown, Mr Ladbrook,Mr Rule, Mr Mc Avan, Ms Nichols,Mr Forman and a couple other teachers played. At one point I got really hurt in the eye because i fell down with the ball but my eye hit Mr Mc Avans knee.Overall this was a really fun game.

I think I showed community by playing by the rules and cheering for everyone.

Drama excellence # 8

Today for drama we filmed our production of a silent movie. As, Mr Muller was not here Mrs Casey filmed them for us.Today, because of the open day we had to do it at different times and fit everyone in and still let the people part of performances make it to their commitments. When, it was our turn we went over to rm 20 and Mrs Casey filmed us.But before that we got to practice which was very useful as it gave us a idea on how much space we have and was just a good rehearsal. While we were filming we had some difficulties because personally the space was a lot smaller than we got told we had so the chase bit was a bit hard.Overall I think we did alright and that we all knew what to do something hat I think that could make it better would be if we used better facial expressions and not laughed as much but other than that I think we did alright.

I think I showed Excellence by trying my best and just doing it.

Excellence home leaning #5

For this home learning challenge I decided to do R8 Research food from another culture. Prepare a dish from this culture and serve it to your family.
I decided to research about the Japanese culture because I knew very little about it .

Here is a couple of facts about this culture:

1.. Japanese cuisine is one of only three national food traditions recognized by the UN for its cultural significance

.2.The seafood industry is HUGE

3. Simplicity is key.

4. It is rude to leave a messy plate.

Here is a doc where I did some more research:Research doc.

Here is a picture on the dish I decided to make: Sushi.

Blog Title: Term 2 Novel Study

This term I have been reading and studying the novel See ya, Simon.

I found this novel Interesting because it was full of humor and sadness. This novel also had really good description making you feel like you were there ; as well as a good moral being appreciating the good things in life while you can and acceptance and friendship.Another part I like was you wanted to keep reading because you wanted to find out what happens.
During the novel I had to complete a thinking map which shows that I can classify how the author has shown the theme of the book.

National Standard this covers

Year 9/10 Standard
    • I can locate, evaluate, analyse and summarize information and ideas within texts and across a range of texts.
    • I have a large vocabulary that is connected to my own knowledge about the world and includes: - academic e.g observe vs watch - subject-specific (specific words about a subject (e.g feline) - technical terms (specialized vocabulary of a particular field.)
Overall I would give this novel a rating of  _______/10 9 and I would / would not (highlight in green the one that applies to you)  recommend it to others to read because it is aimed at young adults and is a really good book about kids our age ( 12/13 and high school students.) And because it has a tons of humorous parts as well as sad parts.

Technology ( Excellence #5 )

This week for Technology I was in Design and Textile. Today, we were prototyping; but before that we had to complete a sheet about stakeholders and a planning sheet.Once, we started prototyping I decided to make a Texture book for my younger sister this was very fun as we had different materials and we could get a idea of the outcome. But before that we were on tinker cad which is a 3D printing website we can use to design things we want to print. We had to design a Dice with dots or numbers on it I decided to do with numbers.Once we did we prototype, when prototyping we had to fill out this sheet on how/why this could solve our problem/need.I personally enjoyed prototyping as we could get creative and get a picture of what we are doing and most importantly if it works and if it suits it's purpose.Once we were done we lined till the teachers came and then waited for all the other groups to come and finally, we went back to school.

I think I showed Respect by being quiet on the bus and listening to my teacher in design and textiles.

Term 2 arts Drama.

In ARTS this term we have been learning to:
Select and use techniques and relevant technologies to develop drama practice.
Here is a link to our online modelling book.

  • During this unit of learning we:
  • Described the characteristics of silent performances.
  • Identified different techniques used in silent performances.
  • Used these techniques in a variety of different practice situations.
  • Worked in a small group to put together our own silent performance.

The most challenging part of this unit of learning was trying to express what we trying to say because we were not allowed to talk.

The two things that I enjoyed the most were:
  1.  Getting to make up a story and over act.
  2.  Using different facial expressions to express what we are trying to say.

The story that my group told silently was .... It was about a chase which was for all of us.Our group decided the chase was going to be on a toy being stolen, and about three sisters.

Overall I think my group worked Very well, because, everyone in our group agreed and we all communicated and practiced well without mucking about.

Construct and describe simple loci.

W.A.L.T : Construct and describe simple loci

I found trying to remember the formula for each of the questions e.g what is the area if the radius is 2.
I learnt: how to find the area and circumference for a circle and how to/the formula.

Here is a link to my Extended abstract task :Here is a link to my extended abstract task and Here is a link to my relational task where I had to compare circumference and areas working out.

C.V. Blog Post Template

In CAREERS EDUCATION we have been learning to write a skills based Curriculum Vitae.

A skills based C.V. focuses more on the skills that we have,  rather than our work history.

Here is a link to our online Modelling Book that shows the process we have followed.

Three things that I have learned about writing a Curriculum Vitae are:

  1. It has very formal and neat so that, your employs will predict you are a very organised and self managed; which will make them want to employee you.

  1.  Having experience is very useful as it can give you a lot of skills.

  1. Make sure your spelling and grammar correctly and include all your personal, useful and secondary training experiences.

Te Hapua Excellence. # 3

This week everyone class in the year 7/8 hub moved to a new group for either Te Hapua,Buddy program or garden to table.I was In term 1 Buddy program and have now moved to Te Hapua;in Te Hapua we learn about robotics and coding. We get divided in to two groups and for four weeks each we stars by either going to coding or robotics and then switch around. My first four weeks is going to be in coding. At first I thought that coding was going to be very boring and hard to do.But as I learnt more and more,I found it quite interesting for the first week we had to make a small digital presentation were we had to make it so it told people about us and our hobbies. The website we used to make this is a coding website called Scratch.I really enjoyed it although I did fid it a little bit difficult as I am not very good with computer related stuff.

The care value I showed was Respect as I  respected our teacher who was Helen who is going to be teaching us for the remaining three weeks

Peer mediation #3

This week for peer mediation Milan,Andrei and I had our duty on the second half of Wednesday lunch. We had to change our days as My class (room 27 ) had Te Hapua every Friday which was my original day I was normally on.This week only Milan and I did it because Andrei did not show up; we got our vest and lanyards from the previous group and started to walk around. We mostly try walk near the junior area because, it is a area where we mostly get our problem and we barely get any around the kauri area.We got pretty much no problems to deal with but just got the odd couple of kids asking us to solve a problem like someone saying that this person is behind the classrooms and it was easy as saying just not to go there.

This week I showed TRUSTWORTHY because I showed up on time for my duty and did it,this shows trustworthiness as the teachers trust us to do our duty.

Evaluate statistical investigations or probability activities

In Maths we have been learning to:

  • Evaluate statistical investigations or probability activities undertaken by others including data collection methods, choice of methods and validity of findings.

Here is a link to our online modelling book that supports this learning.

Here is some evidence of my learning.

A part of this learning that I found challenging was The extend Abstract task as It took me a while to understand some of the questions. But overall I find it was not to difficult,The only thing I did not understand was firstly explaining the how the statistics quoted against the raw data. But overall I think the IXL activities were really helpful.

My next step is to continue to apply this knowledge of statistics and probability in a variety of real world situations and contexts.

Current events term 1

Current Events Term 1

In Current Events I covered these topics:
  • The design of the Halswell Skate Park and I made a submission to the council.
  • Donald Trump’s Refugee Plan
  • Christchurch Earth Memorial
  • The new Ngā Puna Wai Sports Facility
  • The Red Zone and Avon River Regeneration Plan with a submission to the council.

My favourite topic was The Red Zone and Avon River Regeneration Plan.because we could think creatively put our ideas forward and think about something were we don't have any restrictions e.g design a mall.So that is why this was my favourite.

Here is the Link the Red Zone and Avon River Regeneration Plan.

The Reading National Standards I have achieved are

  • Year 9/10
    • As I read I can make decisions about the usefulness of the text for the purpose - Eg: by using a variety of criteria to evaluate

Monday 10 April 2017

Visual language.

Term 1 novel study.

Term 1 Novel Study

This term I have been reading and studying the novel Dragon keeper by Carol Wilkinson.

I found that this novel was really gripping as it had quite a lot of cliff hangers and it was a book that you at a time just don't want to finish as it is really good and has a lot of proverbs like all answers all answers lie beyond the gate of experience.

During the novel I had to complete two major assessment tasks. The first is an Explain Map which shows the consequences of a major event in the book. The second was a Describe++ Map (Inference map) which shows I how I have connected prior knowledge and other experiences to what I have been reading to make an inference.

National Standard this covers
  • Year 9/10 Standard
    • I can monitor my understanding as it develops during my reading, and adjust my strategies to address any comprehension problems Eg: If I don’t understand a passage I have read I can re-read it, read-on, use pictures or diagrams, or explore the meaning of some of the vocabulary.
    • I can use strategies to analyse ideas and information and to reflect critically on the meaning I am gaining from my reading. (Eg: I can think about the meaning of the information and ideas and how this fits with what I think)

Excellence 2 Leadership

This week we had tech like every week we always have it on a Thursday.I am now in the science group wich is our second group for the year our teacher is Mr Ruseon.I am really looking forward to this pentad as I really like science and overall learning about how science works.Unfortunately It had been raining the whole week and it ws also today.his made morning tea at tech really hard as we only got to go just outside our classroom and only got some fresh air but it was better than nothing.I think this made it hard as people were full of energy but were not able to let there energy out wich made them a little energetic for class but other wise was pretty fun.We just chose the element of the day rb wich is the sybol for rubidium.Rubidium is a really powerfull solid.

Overall I think I showed respect as I was really resoectfull to the teacher.
